Get ready to trek to one of the least explored, yet a popular destination among trekkers who seek adventure. Home to the third highest mountain in the world, the Kanchenjunga region is located in the eastern part of Nepal. The Kanchenjunga Circuit trek goes deep into the remote mountains of the East region and offers views of the snow-capped mountains, lush vegetation, and spectacular landscape.

The eastern region of Nepal is rich in wildlife like the rare Red Panda, Musk Deer, and Snow Leopard. The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek takes you through the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, where you’ll get a chance to encounter endangered species of birds like Red-Billed Blue Magpie and Impedance Pheasant.

Beginning your trip to Kathmandu, you take a flight to Bhadrapur and then drive to Taplejung. You start your trek from Taplejung to Mamankhe, where you’ll cross through the lush forest full of bamboo and rhododendron trees and the uphill climb to Phumphe Danda. Then, you ascend to Khesewa, one of the serene villages of the region.

You walk along the Kabeli Khola to reach Yamphudin. Along the road to Tortong and Cheram, you pass through rustic villages. Upon entering the Lalung Valley, the Tuplung peak will greet you. You will acclimatize in Cheram. The steep trek to Yalung Base camp is an adventurous one as you come across monasteries and get glimpses of the landscape from Kanchenjunga’s southern part.

You reach Ghunsa after passing Sinelapche Bhanjyang, Mirgin La Pass, Sinion La Pass, and Sele La Pass. Your next destination is Rangtang Monastery before heading out to Kanchenjunga base camp. You come across Kanchenjunga glacier before reaching the base camp. From the base camp, the spectacular views of the Kanchenjunga landscape will reward you.

The trip starts as you arrive in Nepal. You land at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu per your scheduled flight. Our staff will be waiting to welcome you, warmly. After brief introductions, you head to the hotel and refresh. You meet our team for a welcome event. Later, you can discuss the details of the trek over dinner.
Along with the preparation of your permit, you will sightsee some of the landmarks of the capital city today. The first stop is Kathmandu Durbar Square, where you discover the rich history of civilization and the rustic Newari culture. Then, you head to Swayambhunath, also known as “the Monkey Temple.” The large population of monkeys will astonish you along with the beautiful panorama of the valley. The last stop is Boudhanath Stupa, where you experience tranquility in the middle of the bustling city. The day ends with a Tibetan style dinner at Boudha.
After an early breakfast, you head to the airport and catch the flight to Bhadrapur. During the flight, you get to see beautiful views of the hills, flatlands, and mountains like Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Makalu, etc. Once you land at Bhadrapur, you meet our local staff who will guide you, and then drive you to Taplejung. The road slowly meanders through the hills of Ilam. You drive further up north and reach Taplejung by late afternoon. Overnight stay at a lodge.
After a hearty breakfast, you start your trek. The first destination is Lalikharka, and the route takes you through forests filled with various trees like bamboo and rhododendron. The route goes through a series of ups and downs. Enjoying the green landscape of the region, you arrive at Lalikharka for the overnight stay.
After breakfast, you descend to Phundrawa. From there, you ascend to Yanpang through a steep trail. Then, you go uphill to Phumphe Danda and then finally ascend to Khesewa. Overnight stay at the teahouse.
The trail today goes along the banks of the Kabeli Khola. Then, you walk through a dense forest and cross several streams. En route, you get to see amazing views of mountains like Everest and Kanchenjunga. After passing through several small villages, you arrive at Mamankhe for the overnight stay.
Today, the trail ascends, and you walk along the Kabeli Khola. You then ascend to a beautiful ridge and pass by a gorgeous waterfall. The trail then takes you to cross a stream via a suspension bridge. You reach Yamphudin after passing by several small settlement areas. Overnight stay at a teahouse.
The trail today is filled with many beautiful sceneries. You take on the route used by the villagers and walk past pretty meadows, farmlands, and terraced farms. Then, you walk along the Amji Khola and cross a pass at Lasiya Bhanjyang. From Lasiya Bhanjyang, you descend to Tortong for the overnight stay.
After breakfast, you resume the trek and walk along the banks of the Simbuwa Khola. You then enter the Lalung Valley as the views of Tuplung Peak greet you. As you trek deep into the valley, you reach Cheram for the overnight stay.
As you’ll be ascending to more than 4,000 m, it is essential to acclimatize at least for a day. So, you’ll be acclimatizing in this beautiful village of Cheram. After breakfast, you head to explore the Yalung Glacier. Then, you hike to the nearby peaks of Kabru and Rathong. You can also opt to explore the nearby villages.
After breakfast, you ascend to the Yalung Glacier. Before you reach the beginning of the glacier, you take on a different route and head into another valley. With the spectacular views of the mountains, you arrive at Ramchaur after crossing the small village of Lapsang. Overnight stay through camping.
You ascend further up into the valley. Then, the route follows the moraine-filled path below Kanchenjunga’s south face. En route, you get to see glimpses of Jannu Himal. Then, you reach the sacred Oktang Monastery. From the monastery, you head to the Yalung Base Camp. Once you reach the base camp, you get to see amazing views of the beautiful landscape. You then descend back to Cheram for the overnight stay.
The trek today can be a bit strenuous as you need to cross four passes. After breakfast, you ascend to cross Sinelapche Bhanjyang and then head to Mirgin La Pass. After that, you head to the Sinion La Pass, and finally, you reach Sele La Pass. The views from the passes are picturesque with the colorful prayer flags fluttering. You cross the last pass and find a suitable spot for camping overnight.
Today, you head to the northern part of Tanbharma, Danda. Once you see a Chorten with a prayer flag, the trail starts to get steep, and then at one point, it descends through the forest filled with rhododendron, birch, and pine trees. After the descent, you arrive at the village of Ghunsa for the overnight stay.
Today, you head further north with beautiful views of the Kanchenjunga range in the backdrop. The trail goes through meadows and then through forests of rhododendron and pine. After crossing the bridge at Rampuk Kharka, you cross a pretty waterfall and reach a landslide-prone area. After careful navigations, you then arrive at Kambachen while admiring the splendid views of Mt. Jannu. Overnight stay at a lodge.
The trail today is rocky and filled with boulders. You walk along the riverbank and reach a waterfall. Then, you head to Rangtang Monastery and then arrive at another landslide-prone area. Through careful navigation, you head down to the riverbank, and from there, the next stop is Lhonak, where you stay overnight.
Today is the day you head to the Kanchenjunga Base Camp. The trail goes along the enormous Kanchenjunga Glacier, and following through the icy and moraine filled route; you reach Pangpema. Then, you head to explore the base camp. At the base camp, the views of Kanchenjunga, Jannu, and other neighboring mountains will reward you. After exploring, you head down to Pangpema for overnight camping.
After the successful climb to the base camp, it’s time to return to lower elevations. You clean and pack up your camping site, and then retrace the steps you took and head to Lhonak for overnight stay.
The trail goes back to Kambachen, and you retrace the trail you took you ascend. Enjoying the beautiful landscape views, you arrive at Ghunsa for the overnight stay.
The trail today takes you to Phale after you walk through a juniper and rhododendron forest. You then cross a bridge over the Chhundarangka Khola to reach Gyabla. The trail continues, and you come across a pretty waterfall. From here, you cross another bridge over Sumbung Khola and arrive at Amjilosa for the overnight stay.
The trail takes you to cross another bridge over the Ghunsa Khola. Then, you arrive at Sukathum. You walk past several small settlement areas and enjoy the amazing sceneries of the mountains and landscape. Then, you walk along the Tamor Khola and reach Chirwa for the overnight stay.
The trail today goes through pleasant villages and settlement areas. As you descend to the lower elevations, the vegetation starts to get greener, and more rustic villages to start to appear. Then, you arrive at Mitlung village, where you can see thatched roof houses and terraced farmlands. After having lunch, you descend back to Taplejung for the overnight stay.
The long trek has finally come to an end. After a hearty breakfast, it is time for you to head back to the Bhadrapur. En route, you get to enjoy the greenery of the hills. As you meander through the steep hills, the terrain slowly changes to the flatlands of Terai, and you start to feel the heat. By late afternoon, you arrive at Bhadrapur. In the evening, you join the local staff for a farewell dinner.
After the tiring yet exciting trek, it’s time to head back to Kathmandu. After an early breakfast, you catch the first flight from Bhadrapur to Kathmandu. You get to enjoy the scenic views of the hills and flatlands during the flight. At the domestic airport of Kathmandu, our staff will pick you up and take you to the hotel. You can rest or buy souvenirs during your free time before dinner. You join our staff in the evening for a farewell dinner.
The trip has now come to an end, and you head back to your home country. Make sure that you have all your belongings with you. It’s sad to say goodbye, but the unforgettable memories with you will always stay with us. Thank you for traveling with us, and we hope you have a safe flight.
